- -Summary-
-Akihabara that is crowded with ramen shops-
Akihabara has flourished as one of the most famous electronics districts in Japan.
The area is also famous for experiencing Otaku (hardcore anime fans) culture.
There are as many as 118 ramen shops within an area of 800 m radius around Akihabara Station.
As I always enjoy ramen when I go shopping for cosplay items, I’m going to introduce the best 23 ramen shops offering delicious noodles that I have had.
-Best 23 popular ramen shops in Akihabara offering delicious noodles-
1. Motenashi Kuroki(饗 くろ喜) Special Shio Soba(特製塩そば) ¥1100
Recommended levels:★★★★★
It’s safe to say that the shop is outstandingly popular among other popular ramen shops in Akihabara, a ramen mecca.
Its’ most popular menu item is Shio Soba. This is a special ramen made with the chef’s passion, using 6 types of salt from the sea, mountains, and lakes.
Each feature of salt complicatedly woven into the broth creates its rich and unique flavor.
The shop has been creating new interesting ramen one after another that you can have only here. Therefore, visiting this young and energetic shop will never get boring.
You must try ramen at Murasaki Kuroki, the second brand shop of Motenashi Kuroki. The shop opens only on Fridays and offers soy sauce-based ramen or tsukemen topped with duck. It has got better online reviews than those of Motenashi Kuroki. Although the shop has a very long line, it worth visiting there without doubt.

2. Shinasoba Tanaka Second(志奈そば田なか second) Ajitama Shio Chukasoba(味玉塩中華そば) ¥880
Recommended levels:★★★★★
This ramen shop drew the highest attention around Akihabara in early 2016.
Its main shop in Otsuka is very famous. Therefore, it has already been bustling with customers every day.
The handsome owner love surfing and the ocean. He makes ramen with plenty of ingredients from the ocean. You can enjoy the bounty of the ocean here.
He brings the best out of seafood ingredients such as dried horse mackerel. He adds chicken into ramen to enhance its flavor, even the main shop doesn’t. His ramen is very unique and very delicious.
The owner used to be an Italian chef. He has good taste in food presentation and you can catch a glimpse of his taste into beautiful presentation of his ramen. This will be something that you should check at the shop too.
Another reason why the shop drew such high attention is Sikou-no (sublime) Shio Kakesoba limited to 30 servings only at night.
Although this ramen, only including noodles and broth, costs surprisingly 1,000 yen, the broth containing abalone and Iseebi (premium lobster) is incredibly luxurious. Even you are not a ramen fan, this ramen is worth trying.

3. Aoshima Shokudo(青島食堂) Aoshima Ramen(青島ラーメン) ¥720
Recommended levels:★★★★★
Aoshima ramen is one of local special ramen in Nigata. The shop is famous for offering Nagaoka ginger & soy sauce-based ramen. The shop is so popular around Akihabara that it has always a long line.
As the name suggests, ramen at the shop has decent flavor and aroma of ginger that you can instantly notice.
Its soy sauce-based broth has a firmly rich flavor but its aftertaste is refreshing because of ginger.
This is a simple ramen but you will never get bored its taste so that you can eat it as many times as you want.
Once you have this ramen in Akihabara, please visit the main shop in Nigata and try a ramen there.
The shop offers very delicious Char siu. So, I recommend Char siu men too
You will be impressed by the large portion of meat if you pay 100 yen additionally. You will be glad that this is great value for money.

4. Menya Haruka(麺屋 はるか) Taiwan Mazesoba(台湾まぜそば) ¥780
Recommended levels:★★★★★
Taiwan mazesoba was first made in Nagoya but it became very popular in Tokyo too and seems to be completely familiar in Tokyo. Menya Haruka is the best place to try Taiwan mazesoba in Akihabara.
This is a sister shop of the founder of Taiwan mazesoba. Although its mazesoba doesn’t have originality, you can enjoy its unchanged taste.
Spicy Taiwanese mince goes perfectly well with other ingredients such as vegetables, nori, and fish meal. Please mix them well before eating.
Like a dish from Nagoya, it has a quite intense flavor. Therefore, some people may not like it. However, once you like it, you will be addicted to it with no doubt.
You can select with or without garlic when ordering your mazesoba so that you don’t need to worry about bad breath if you need to work after eating it. For finishing, you can add a small amount of rice called “oimeshi” into a bowl for free. So, let’s eat up the ingredients or sauce left on the bowl together with rice.

5. Fukurou(福籠) Miso(味噌) ¥720
Recommended levels:★★★★★
If you want to have a miso ramen around the area from Akihabara to Asakusabashi, Fukurou is the best place to visit.
Its broth covered with lard is very hot. A combination of sweet and rich broth and a pleasant flavor of miso is fantastic.
The chef learnt ramen at a ramen shop in Sapporo, where is famous for miso ramen. He handed down its authentic flavor but adds some originality including using noodles produced by noodles manufacturer in Tokyo.
If you fell the ramen is a little greasy, please mix ginger on top of Char siu with the broth. You can definitely enjoy it’s refreshing aftertaste.
Although I personally think the best time to eat miso ramen like this is in cold winter, it will be okay to eat miso ramen here in summer.
The air conditioner at the shop works well so that you can comfortably enjoy ramen even in hot season.

6. Ikinaishou(粋な一生) Shio ramen(塩ラーメン) ¥720
Recommended levels :★★★★★
Ikinaishou is my best ramen shop among the 24 shops that I can recommend without worry.
The shop offers full selection of classic ramen menu items that everyone can think of, such as shio, shoyu, and miso. In addition, all these classic ramen are delicious.
If you cannot decide which ramen to order, please try shio ramen, the most recommended ramen of the shop, first.
You will be impressed by gentle umami of the broth extracted from seafood and meat. You can comfortably slurp twisted noodles that is coated well with this broth.
I felt that I have eaten up the broth before I realized it every time I visited the shop.
Besides a wide range of regular menu items, the shop occasionally offer limited time only menu items so that customers can enjoy visiting the shop without getting bored.
The shop has a relatively long history around the area but the owner still makes an effort to create something new. I admire his attitude.
Shop details

7. Chogoteri Men Gotsu(超ごってり麺 ごっつ) Shoyu ramen(しょうゆラーメン) (Lard Gotegote(背脂ごてごて)) ¥750
Recommended levels:★★★
The shop is famous for ramen with rich broth and plenty of lard, named as “lard chacha style”
Sweet lard is excellently paired with a bit salty broth.
It has ample of vegetables such as green onions too. This is a fulfilling ramen so that your stomach will become totally full.
While some people may think that lard is not healthy, the owner wants to offer something good for health even for just a little. Therefore, he offers high quality lard made in Japan.
Don’t be picky about ramen with plenty of lard, please try it once.
The shop opens daily for a quite longer hour than that of other ramen shops in Akihabara. One of the reasons for my recommendation is that you can visit the shop without worrying about time and day of the week.
Contrast with wildness of the ramen, staff at the shop is very polite, which will give you good impression.
Shop details

8. Ramen Tsumugi(らーめん 紬麦) Ramen(ラーメン) ¥800
Recommended levels :★★★★★
Tsumugi is situated in an unnoticeable place, the ground floor of the building. However, the shop is very popular and have been attracting many customers with its fantastic taste.
As well as the completion of Japanese-style broth, its best feature is noodles.
Noodles made from flour produced in Kagawa is very thick and look like udon. They have a smooth but firm texture.
These noodles seem to take advantages of both udon and ramen. I strongly recommend this shop because of its simple but unique taste.
The shop offers other menu items, including tsukemen, and curry nanban (curry noodles) that is a quite unusual item for ramen shop.
If you don’t like ramen that is too unique but you don’t feel like eating classic ramen, I recommend to visit here.
Shop details

9. Menya Musashi Iwatora(麺屋武蔵 巖虎) Iwatora Tsukemen(巖虎つけ麺) ¥1000
Recommended levels:★★★
Menya Musashi group is a pioneer of ramen boom. The group has opened a ramen shop in Akihabara too.
Each shop has a different concept. This shop is famous for Cha siu bacon.
Pork libs are marinated in Char siu sauce and are smoked. I really like their aroma.
These ribs are browned before being served so that they look beautiful too.
Each portion of tsukemen, from regular to special large, is charged at the same price. So, if you are very hungry and want to eat a lot, Iwatora is the best place to go.
Actually, the group has opened another ramen shop, called Menya Musashi Bujin in Akihabara.
While this shop offers a large portion of noodles as the same as Iwatora, their difference is that Bujin offers quiet large amount of meat. If you’re interested in comparison between the two, please try both.
Shop details

10. Rokutsuki(ろく月) Special Pork Paitan Ramen(特製豚白湯ラーメン) ¥880
Recommended levels:★★★★★
Rokutsuki is a must-visit ramen shop if you want to eat tonkotsu raman around Akihabara.
Actually, the shop is closer to Asakusabashi than Akihabara, but you can go here on foot from Akihabara Station.
This tonkotsu ramen doesn’t have any odd smell at all. Its creamy broth that completely extracts pork umami is excellent.
It has a very rich flavor so that you cannot believe it doesn’t contain any synthetic seasoning. In addition, the broth is not heavy, easy to drink.
This ramen includes vegetables that are uncommon in tonkotsu ramen such as young corn and asparagus. These vegetables become more delicious after absorbing the broth.
You can hardly find tonkotsu ramen that is very tasty and unique like this. You will be regret if you don’t come here.
Occasionally, the owner operates the shop alone. In that time, you might have to wait for a long time during the busiest time.
I recommend to visit here in the evening on weekdays because the shop is relatively not busy.
The interior of the shop is very clean so single female customer can comfortably enjoy ramen.
Shop details

11. Ramen Hiro(らあめん 広) Hiroshima Tsukemen(広島つけ麺 ) ¥800
Recommended levels:★★★★
Although the owner leant shio ramen at a famous ramen shop, he decided to offer ramen from his hometown Hiroshima when opening his own shop.
The most recommended ramen at this shop (see the photo) is Hiroshima tsukemen. Its unique feature is that both noodles and broth is cold, which is different from common tsukemen: cold noodles and hot broth.
This tsukemen tastes sweet first and gradually becomes spicy. You will be addicted to this spiciness.
Later, if you squeeze a lemon on top, you will be amazed by its slightly different taste.
The ramen comes with ample of vegetables including green onion and cabbage. So, I think this is the best refreshing ramen especially in a hot season, even you are sweating while eating.
The shop also offers tonkotsu ramen and tantanmen without broth. Each item has very unique taste that is different from other shops. So, please try these items too.
The owner is incredibly humble. I really like his service. Therefore, I somehow feel like supporting this shop.
Shop details

Address:2-25 Kandasakuma-cho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo
Tel: +81-3-5839-2979

12. Akihabara Ramen Waizu(秋葉原ラーメン わいず) Ramen(ラーメン) ¥720
Recommended levels:★★★★
If you want to eat rich and thick tonkotsu ramen near Akihabara, Waizu is the best place to go.
This is a franchise shop of a famous ramen shop in Kanda. Although the shop doesn’t say that ramen here are defined as Yokohama-style ramen, both its presentation and taste are very similar.
Its broth is very powerful as you can expect from its presentation. Its noodles are thick so that the ramen is quiet fulfilling.
Needless to say, it goes well with rice. So, don’t forget to order rice.
If you eat nori and spinach soaked in plenty of the broth together with rice, you will be absolutely satisfied with this taste.
You can order your favorite firmness of noodles, strength of flavor, and quantity of fat. So, if you like particular taste, don’t forget to tell your choices.
Although the shop is very narrow like an eel, you don’t feel comfortable to stay here because of its cleanness and polite service of the staff.
The shop opens until night without a break. So, you can visit here without worry when you forget to have a lunch.

13. Tanaka Sobaten(田中そば店) Chukasoba(中華そば) ¥750
Recommended levels:★★★★
The base of popular Tanaka Sobaten is located in Adachi-ku. This is its branch shop in Akuhabara. Here you can enjoy ramen based on Kitakata ramen, a local special ramen in Fukushima.
Its broth has a light flavor that everyone can straightforwardly say this is delicious like penetrating through your body. This broth goes perfectly well with medium-thick noodles with a chewy texture.
It comes with three sheets of thick Char siu and look amazingly good. You can order additional Char siu too.
For your information, you can ask to make it tastier when ordering your Chukasoba. The shop is also recommended to try this rich flavor one, so please try both and compare their taste.
Besides Kitakata ramen, you can have spicy miso ramen from Yamagata. Its presentation and taste totally differ from miso ramen from Sapporo. There are very few ramen shops in Tokyo offering Yamagara miso ramen. In that sense, this shop is valuable.

14. Yunrinbo(雲林坊) Shirunashi Tantanmen(汁なし担担麺) ¥880
Recommended levels:★★★
If you want to have a tantanmen around Akihabara, Yurinbo is the best place to go.
This shop is owned by a Chinese restaurant nearby and offers casual dishes with the same taste in the restaurant at reasonable prices.
The shop offers two types of tantanmen: with and without sauce. The latter one is especially recommended by staff at the shop.
It’s not too spicy but you can add more spice.
Prickly ash will firmly sting your nose.
If you like spicy, you can add mala sauce for an additional cost.
For finishing, it will be a good idea to put rice into a bowl and eat the left ingredients and sauce together with it.
Besides tantanmen, another famous dish here is mapo tofu.
This mapo tofu is made with original blended Doubanjiang, so you can fully enjoy its spiciness and pungent of prickly ash.
The shop offers a set menu of tantanmen and small size mapo tofu too. If you want to have both, please order the set menu.

15. Menya Suiren(麺屋 睡蓮) Ajitama Tsukemen(味玉つけ麺) ¥880
Recommended levels:★★★★
Suiren is relatively a new shop around Akihabara. However, this popular shop attracts many customers with its great performance.
The shop offers ramen with decent levels of thickness and elasticity so that it is easy to eat. The broth is extracted from seafood and pork bone. This type of ramen will be delicious as expected if it is carefully made.
The shop provides excellent detailed work including taste, food presentation, and customer service.
You can order another broth in the end, Chopped Char siu and green onion are added for free.
If your stomach is still not full, please order second broth.
While the shop used to offer either ramen or tsukemen every other week, it offers both now.
Ramen is sold out quickly. So, if you want to have a ramen, it will be wise to visit here at early time.
The shop actively disseminates information on Twitter.

16. Toriou Keisuke(鶏王けいすけ) Toriou Ramen(鶏王らーめん) ¥820
Recommended levels:★★★
This is an unusual type of shop of Keisuke group, a famous ramen franchise. The group has a shop in Singapore and this shop offers the same ramen that you can get there like reimport.
As the name suggests, the main ingredient at the shop is chicken and chicken taipan ramen, which more and more shops recently offer, is the most popular menu item of the shop.
Although this ramen doesn’t have strong originality, you can fully enjoy delicious umami and sweetness of chicken.
Bone-in chicken placed in the center of the bowl is eye-catching
The chicken is tender enough to break up the meat with chopsticks and is fulfilling.
The chicken plays a role of a ramen topping, not just making a strong impact or a good topic to talk about.
You can add spicy miso as you like. That is a shop’s recommendation.
Ramen made from shamuroku, high-end chicken produced in Aomori has recently been popular too.
Although this ramen costs 1,000 yen, higher pricing, I saw that many customers ordered it.

17. Menya Kitamura(麺家きむら) Wantanmen(わんたん麺) ¥850
Recommended levels:★★★★
If you want to eat traditional ramen around Akihabara, Kitamura is the best place to go.
The broth of wantanmen has a soy-sauce based flavor made from well-blended meat and seafood. You will be impressed by its flavor as it gradually spreads through your mouth.
I think most people like this flavor.
I was more impressed by its noodles than this broth.
Noodles are made at the shop every day. Therefore, noodles alone have great umami. These noodles provide an excellent flavor.
They also provide so perfect texture when slurping that I feel like slurping them forever.
Although its portion is rather big, I can quickly finish it all the times.
If you like noodles, please try Kitamura’s noodles once.
Speaking of drawbacks, it is a bit difficult to find the shop and it opening hours are short.
Please note that the shop will be closed one hour earlier than usual on Saturdays.
However, the shop usually has more customers on Saturdays than other days of the week, because all noodles will be 100 yen off on Saturdays.

18. Shinfukusaikan(新福菜館) Chukasoba(中華そば) ¥700
Recommended levels:★★★
Shinfukusaikan is a long-established ramen shop and its main shop is located in Kyoto. Finally, it opened several franchise shops in Tokyo.
Its soy sauce-based broth seems to have a strong flavor because of its black color. Actually, it doesn’t. It has a gentle flavor as a long-established shop.
Luckily, it comes with plenty of Char siu even for a regular size.
Grilled rice on its side menu is popular too. So, please order one together with chukasoba when you visit the shop.
Besides Akihabara, Shinfukusaikan has several shops in Tokyo including Azabujuban and Ningyocho.
Honestly, the food here is inferior to that of the main shop in Kyoto in quality. These shops are valuable because you can easily enjoy the flavors of the shop with a long history in Tokyo

19. Ramen Daishi(ラーメン大至) Ramen(ラーメン) ¥670
Recommended levels:★★★★
The shop is rather closer to Ochanomizu than Akihabara. However, you can easily come here on foot from Suehirocho or Akihabara Station.
Ramen that you can have here are quite standard.
The shop declares to be “the top normal ramen”. The broth has a simple soy sauce-based flavor. Its noodles and toppings are standard too. However, this ramen is very delicious.
Although various ramen has been released over the past few years, this style of ramen is the one you can eat without getting bored.
You want to have a shop like Daishi in your neighborhood.
While its regular menu items are simple, many of its limited menu items are unique and cutting edge. They are very interesting. The shop offers a wide range of alcohol drinks and snacks during evening hours so that it is recommended to have a drink first and eat a ramen in the end.
*Note: Evening hours are currently closed. (as of April,2016)

20.Kanda Isono(神田 磯野) Ajitama Shoyu Ramen(味玉醤油らーめん) ¥930
Recommended levels: ★★★★★
Although the shop name includes Kanda, it is actually located between Kanda and Akihabara and you can walk here from the both stations.
I like its shoyu ramen the best around this area.
This shoyu ramen was made with full of high-end ingredients such as premium chicken named Nagoya Cochin. Its broth with a nicely balanced flavor is so delicious that I can eat it up without abandon.
Soft, smooth noodles and menma absorbed it well are also provide a nicely balanced flavor.
Some customers may not like the aroma of iwanori (unprocessed nori), but it gives accent to the ramen and provides a unique flavor.
Although the owner is not very friendly as he may not be of social dexterity, I like his blunt artisanship.
He works courteously and his ramen give an impression of ramen with his true soul.

21. Mentaku Ushio(麺巧 潮) Chicken Paitan Soba(鶏白湯そば) ¥870
Recommended levels:★★★
As the number of ramen shop offering chicken paitan has been increasing, Ushio offers extremely unique one.
Surprisingly, its broth contains thick cream and its toppings include poached egg and meat-wrapped asparagus.
Although the broth has a light flavor, it contains enough umami. When the poached egg breaks in the broth, interestingly its flavor becomes rich.
If you’re getting tired of eating classic chicken paitan, this shop is a must-visit place.
In contrast to chicken paitan, Nihonichi (Japan’s best) shoyu soba, which has a rich flavor of soy sauce and seafood stock, is also a must-eat dish.
I actually prefer this to the paitan.

22. Mumei(無銘) Jyukuseineri Shoyu Ramen(熟成練り醤油らーめん) ¥700
Recommended levels:★★★★★
The owner said that my shop hasn’t achieved the level to announce its name. Therefore, it was named “Mumei”. Contrary to its name, actually you will be amazed by high-level and unique ramen here.
The shop’s original nerishoyu (soy sauce paste) is placed on the center. You can mix this nerishoyu and broth togher a little by a little as you eat the ramen. An interesting style!
The ramen will become a bit salty when you mix all the nerishoyu with the broth. So, I recommend to use two thirds of it.
As the owner operates the shop alone, you may wait for a bit long to be served during a busy time. However, it’s definitely worth the wait.
Salt-based ramen with truffle oil and tsukemen with a rich seafood flavor are almost as delicious as the soy sauce-based ramen.
The shop opens from around lunch time to night without a break. Therefore, you can enjoy its ramen even after lunch or dinner time.

23. Kikanbo(鬼金棒) Karashibi Miso Ramen(カラシビ味噌らー麺) ¥800
Recommended levels:★★★★
Speaking of spicy ramen, Nakamoto is the most famous ramen shop. However, Kikanbo has almost as many true fans as Nakamoto.
As the name suggests, its ramen includes spiciness of red pepper and pungency of sansho pepper.
As well as these addictive spiciness and pungency, the broth has a rich flavor and is very delicious.
Noodles have a presence and they provide a nice balance flavor with the broth.
A bowl of ramen here provides an extremely high level of the completion. I want you to try ramen here, even if you are not fan of spiciness.
For your information, you can choose one from 5 different spiciness and pungency for an additional charge.
Except for the highest level, the charges of the four levels are the same price.
You can ask to make your ramen without red pepper and sansho pepper too.
You can find Kikanbo in Ikebukuro other than Kanda.
In addition, the company opens a stall in Taiwan. I hope that this unique spicy and pungent ramen will become popular around the world.
