ささ木(Sasaki) in Sendai





Iwaidori (local premium chicken) grilled on a salt rock (850 yen). A pleasant charcoal aroma spread through my mouth right after I put it in my mouth…

The chicken has a tender, moist, and soft texture. I enjoyed its subtle flavor of umami and sweetness.

The restaurant’s exterior
I went to Sasaki, a restaurant received a Bib Gourmand award in Michelin Guide Miyagi.

Broiled bonito by straw-fuel (850 yen)
The soft texture of the bonito easily tore up and I felt its subtle aroma of charcoal.

The sourness of Sudachi (Japanese citrus fruit) brought out the umami of the bonito.




Appetizer: Hananira (spring starflower) and soft egg (540 yen)
Surprisingly, the spring starflower was sweet and had no distinctive flavor.
Its sweetness went well with the umami out of rich dashi (broth)-flavored soft egg.

Grilled asparagus (780 yen)
As I bit the asparagus, its juice was extracted more. I enjoyed its clear sweet flavor.
Its charcoal aroma made me feel good as well.

Broiled black cod (980 yen)
The black cod had a tender and flaky texture.
I felt relaxed by its mild sweet flavor.




Free-dried mozuku (seaweed) with vinegar (580 yen)
The thin mozuku seaweed had a crisp texture. I become addicted to its gentle sour flavor.
In the end, I had another one.

Potato salad with Iburi Gakko (smoked radish pickles) (650 yen)
The smoked pickles contained small amount of water. The more I bit them, the better I could enjoy the umami and sweetness of the potatoes.

They went perfectly well with the gentle flavor of Iburi Gakko.

I was very happy because the owner was friendly and was easy to talk to me over the counter.

The owner, a chef, and a waiting staff work together to serve customers.

They drank champagne together with regular customers and provided a friendly atmosphere to them.

I was very satisfied with heart-warming dishes and atmosphere at the restaurant.
